Visual Analytics Research Group
The L3S is a research center at the Leibniz University of Hannover and investigates the effects of digitization to derive options for action, recommendations, and innovation strategies for business, politics, and society.
The Visual Analytics Research Group is hosted at TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and part of the Joint Lab of TIB/L3S. Prof. Ralph Ewerth is head of the Visual Analytics Research Group and holds a professorship at the Leibniz University Hannover.
The group researches data analytics and visualization methods for automatic annotation, interpretation and exploration of multimodal information. The main research areas are multimodal/multimedia information retrieval, machine learning, and visual analytics focusing on:
- Semantic (automatic) annotation of multimodal data (images, video, 3D, etc.)
- Automatic interpretation of multimodal information
- Deep learning and machine learning techniques
- Digital library as a virtual learning environment
- Informal learning with multimedia data
- Interactive exploration of media archives
- Usability aspects
